An Understanding To The Links At The Right, Part Two

Check back tomorrow for part two. - written by Jacob at 2/03/2009 08:07:00 AM

And with thhat hilarious line, here is the second part of understanding the links Critiqulous has. Two days late. So what if this guy is still grasping at this voodoo concept known as time.

Deadspin [sports]
Unofficially, this blog is one of the influences for this guy to start up Critiqulous. The writing and the banter by it's readers is snarky, witty and at times, really offensive. That being said though, that is the sense of humor the staff here has. By all counts and measures, Deadspin really does give sports conglomerato, ESPN a run for their money. Even if fellow writer Matt thinks Deadspin is, "obnoxious," that sissy.

Sutter Ink [miscellaneous anger]
Kurt Sutter is the mastermind behind the F/X show "Sons Of Anarchy," which is a favorite amongst this guy and fellow writer, Shane. The show itself is like Shakespeare's Hamlet, but riding hard and fast on motorcycles. The man behind the show, Kurt Sutter has this, his very own blog to talk about daily life as the creator of a TV series, his opinions without holding a single thing back and is not afraid to call out things that make him angry, which you will see is a lot of things.

Rocky Votolato [music]
-the following summary is actually written by contributing writer, Leilani, so blame her-
Remember dreaming about meeting your favorite entertainers and how they always ended up being the greatest people? Well, there is one person i know of who doesn't kill that dream, Rocky Votolato. Beyond being incredibly genuine, this guy is ridiculously talented. His poetic, descriptive, and emotionally-ridden lyrics matched with his indie folk blend always hit perfectly without ever making him seem like a pretentious prick out to convince everyone he's intelligent. Basically, he's good, he's sweet, and you should listen to him.

The Artifakt Art Show [arts]
A Seattle (woo, Seattle!) arts and music showcase featuring area artists as well as musical acts all for the sake of collecting an array of various styles. After all, art is everywhere, as is music. They have a show coming up next week on Friday the 13th (eep), so if you are reading this and in the Seattle area, it might be something to check out. Looking at photos from past events, the showcases have some really good stuff and through word of mouth, this guy has been told it's worth checking out.

Marybeth D'Amico [music]
-written by Shane, and probably tons of obscure references to 50s variety shows that only he would care-
Formerly (and, really still is) American, but now based in the wilds of Germany. Disciple of Patti Griffin, Carly Simon and former president James Taylor. Singer of songs that can flip from melancholia and sadness, to power, glory and raw anger - sometimes within the same verse. Contrary to what you may think, she has never been to prison - but she did shoot a man in Reno, just to watch him die (and found the activity highly overrated). She's not afraid to tell a story that will stick with you long after the music has ended, and it's burrowed it's way into your soul. This particular guy thinks she is one of his best musical discoveries of the last few years, and that she deserves to be discovered by everyone else as soon as possible.

Common Market [music]
First there was Blue Scholars. Then came Common Market. Using DJ Sabzi from Blue Scholars, emcee RA Scion has provided Seattle with another breath of fresh air in regards of what can happen when there is actual substance-filled hip-hop out there to be heard. From delivering at Bumbershoot a couple years ago, which this guy was front and center for to recently and jokingly punking out Blue Scholars emcee Geologic for complaining about snow (not the Canadian rapper). Common Market has made their own place on the Seattle hip-hop scene with insightful lyrics and with the friendship RA Scion has with Blue Scholars, this is a one-two punch that should put poser-rappers to shame and rightfully so.

And there is part two. Part three will come when it is out of the oven and after 10 minutes of letting it cool on the windowsill.

Sure, he doesn't link back to us, but HE READ IT! I don't know if you let him know, or if he found out on his own, either way - he mentioned my classification by name.
