I am not one that is always on the know on what's hot and new in music. The last time I listened to a Top 40 station for more than ten minutes might as well been a decade ago. The saying, "Better late than never" can easily be taped to my forehead with regards to music. Once in a while though I get lucky and manage to remember that The Hold Steady have a new album, but for every moment that happens, there are two instances of, "Oh, The Black Keys have a new album," or better yet, why am I just now finding out that Ted Leo of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists released a new album earlier this year?
That said, I have been made aware that Brandon Flowers, the frontman of The Killers is coming out with a solo album. Ever since "Hot Fuss," I have enjoyed their work. "Sam's Town
" has some really great songs, especially "Read My Mind." Their most recent release "Day & Age
" with the song "Spaceman" confirms to me and my ears that they consistent. Flowers having a solo album mostly because the rest of the band wants to take a break. Which is understandable given that it seems like every other year since their first album they were doing something; it's gotta be taxing. Titled "Flamingo
," and having listened to the first single and it's entertaining music video (see above and yes that is who you think it is in that cameo) "Crossfire," I definitely have my interest in this album. Do I expect a change in style from what he's done with The Killers? Probably not, though I wouldn't be surprised. Reading whatever small bits of information there is out there, I do know that one of the tracks on the upcoming album is a collaboration with Rilo Kiley
frontwoman, the one and only Jenny Lewis
. On paper, that is a very good combination.
Time will tell with how Flowers' solo effort will go. I already like "Crossfire," and the Jenny Lewis collaboration sure keeps my interest high. "Flamingo" is slated for release on September 14th.
Readers, what do you think about Brandon Flowers' upcoming solo album?
